VLC player core dump after weekly-update [Solved]

Post by flexoron » Tue Sep 26, 2017 23:31

VLC player core dump after this week's weekly-update.

When starting 'vlc' by double-clicking Song.mp4 in nautilus,
the music plays until the end and then vlc stops working instead of looping.
Also it is not possible loading AnotherSong.mp4 into the playlist of vlc
via double-click at any time.

Action: Double-click Song.mp4, vlc-window opens, playback starts.

# ps ax | grep vlc
/usr/bin/vlc --started-from-file Song.mp4
# journalctl -f
Sep 26 22:16:14 pc org.freedesktop.FileManager1[2641]: [0000000001e80148] core libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
Sep 26 22:16:14 pc org.freedesktop.FileManager1[2641]: [00007f2eb0cd32f8] avcodec decoder: Using NVIDIA VDPAU Driver Shared Library 384.69 Wed Aug 16 19:38:45 PDT 2017 for hardware decoding.

END of Song.mp4:

Sep 26 22:19:53 pc kernel: vlc[26210]: segfault at 10 ip 00007f2eab2c48f2 sp 00007f2eac5c6990 error 6 in libvdpau_avcodec_plugin.so[7f2eab2c3000+3000]
Sep 26 22:19:53 pc systemd[1]: Started Process Core Dump (PID 26215/UID 0).
Sep 26 22:19:54 pc systemd-coredump[26216]: Process 26183 (vlc) of user 1000 dumped core.

The window/interface stays open; no button but the cross to close the vlc-window works.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Action: Starting 'vlc' in a shell, the interface opens, playback starts.

# /usr/bin/vlc --started-from-file Song.mp4
VLC media player 2.2.6 Umbrella (revision 2.2.6-0-g1aae78981c)
[000000000254a148] core libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
[00007f3d00c9ed78] avcodec decoder: Using NVIDIA VDPAU Driver Shared Library 384.69 Wed Aug 16 19:38:45 PDT 2017 for hardware decoding.

Everything works fine...forward/rewind/loop.
Also you can double-click AnotherSong.mp4 in Nautilus at any time,
AnotherSong.mp4 gets loaded onto the playlist and the playback
now switches/loops between Song.mp4 and AnotherSong.mp4 as expected.

Unfortunately I'm not a GNOME/GUI specialist.
Maybe someone can reproduce and find/fix the bug.
