No Google calendar in Plasma (5.7.5)? [Solved]

Post by linuxfluesterer » Sat Oct 01, 2016 10:58

After a longer while and before setting up a new hard disk with a Sabayon 64 bit KDE (Plasma) installation, I've checked my up to date non production Plasma 5.7.5 on my second laptop. What I essentially need, is a working Korganizer with a synchronized Google calendar. I still use a production first laptop with KDE version 4.14.10, where Google calendar access is provided with Korganizer.

But in settings of Korganizer in Plasma 5.7.5 there is no 'Google calender' adding possible. No Google calendar listed in the menu.

Just a question: Is there a package in Sabyon repo, which I must install also to extend the menu list of possible calendars in Korganizer or is there no Google calendar possible to be added in Korganizer?

Thank you for joining.

Yes, there is no entry for Google Calendar listed in KOrganizer, but you can use the CalDav entry in KOrganizer to sync with Google Calendar. I used the procedure given in the following post:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/267187/s ... dar#267191

That post says to use a URL format of "https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/<my ... s>/events/" but that did not work; I had to use "https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/<my_e-mail_address>/"

However, note that Google blocks KOrganizer on the basis that KOrganizer uses a less-secure protocol. When I first tried to use the above-mentioned procedure I received an e-mail from Google as follows:
Google wrote:
Review blocked sign-in attempt
Hi xxxxxxxxxxxx,

Google just blocked a less secure app from accessing your Google Account [email protected].

Less secure app

United Kingdom*

Don't recognise this activity?

If you didn't recently receive an error while trying to access a Google service, like Gmail, from a non-Google application, someone may have your password.

SECURE YOUR ACCOUNT

Google will continue to block sign-in attempts from this app because it has known security problems or is out of date. You can find out how to change your settings to allow access to less secure apps, but this may leave your account vulnerable.

Best,
The Google Accounts team
I then signed-in to my Google account and changed my Google account settings to allow access to 'less secure apps'. Then I followed the procedure in the aforementioned post again, and this time it worked.

Hallo Fitz.
I mentioned this problem with Google Calendar in another topic, where Sabayonino posted me the following link:
https://userbase.kde.org/Working_with_Google_Calendar.

I could create a webdav Google account with this: https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/Goo ... ID/events/
The GoogleCalendarID is the typical gmail address, e.g. [email protected].
I can confirm that Google first rejects to connect because of 'less security'. I finally agreed to allow access with non Google apps onto my account. Ok, now Korganizer shows Googele Calendar entries, but I don't feel comfortable with this lower security level. Anyway, I will close this thread then.

Thank you both, Fitz and Sabayonino for support.
