What is "feedback --root" ?

Post by greendave8 » Fri May 23, 2014 9:29

Hi Folks,

Since the last update last Saturday. my Sabayon kde is constantly running the fans, and temperature rising to 88 degrees C

Having checked htop, the process I see running at 99% is the above "feedback --root" with a PID of 21336.

I cannot kill this process with kill command... Any ideas ? W hat is it, and why is it constantly running

Thanks in advance

I don't know what is "feedback --root" sorry, but I can advise you that if your computer is getting extremely hot, do not use it for a long period of time or without extra cooling, why? because heat kills or reduce the life of electronic components like the chips and cpu's in our computers, at least until you find a fix for your issue!

P.S. I have run "htop" on my computer and didn't saw any "feedback --root" running, so it must be a KDE thingy.

I dont locate anything about a process so called feedback --root, bu i have in mind that you may received one of the rare Linux Rootkit.

Because the process is no killed easily, i have in mind that may be a defunct or zoombie process.

In order to see this, please execute this command:

Code: Select all

ps -ef | grep defunct
and post the result here.

Details: http://serverfault.com/questions/76263/ ... h-parent-1

to see all the process PIDs involved in the process "feedback root you also may try this command:

Code: Select all

pgrep 'feedback --root'
try also to kill with this command:

Code: Select all

 pkill -P 'feedback --root'
This command is for trying to kill the process and their parents.

Hi Albfeneto,

Here is the output below...

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ su
Password:
sabayon christine # ps -ef | grep defunct
root 4772 4765 0 18:37 pts/1 00:00:00 grep --colour=auto defunct
sabayon christine # pgrep 'feedback --root'
sabayon christine #
Gobble-de-gook to me, and I dont understand any of that? After rebooting the machine, it seems to be behaving (so far...)

Many thanks for the help....I'll keep you posted..

The output shows that it wasn't a defunct process running.

You had all of the processes listed (ps -ef) then you searched through that list for anything that said 'defunct'.

The only thing the search (grep) found was the search itself.
