Man: Broken pipe errors

Postby Cb7 » Wed Jan 15, 2014 10:20

Since update some time ago, messages appeared just before looking at manpages. Example:
Code: Select all
$ man du

bzip2: I/O or other error, bailing out.  Possible reason follows.
bzip2: Broken pipe
        Input file = /usr/share/man/man1p/du.1p.bz2, output file = (stdout)

Above happens when program is opened, only in 1 case I have seen that those messages were affecting program, where part of message was displayed as a part of man page…

Quick googling brought: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-31 ... b53698c2ba

Posts on Gentoo forum highlighted that issue may be related to terminal application, and it appears that it is:
• kde-base/konsole-4.12.0 - errors
• x11-terms/xfce4-terminal-0.6.3 - errors
• x11-terms/xterm-297 - no errors

Installed:
Code: Select all
$ equo q installed -qv sys-apps/man
sys-apps/man-db-2.6.5
sys-apps/man-pages-3.53
sys-apps/man-pages-posix-2003a

Does anyone else spotted it in Sabayon, and perhaps knows something else about it?

Ok, small update.
I no longer have this problem after I've moved my root to btrfs partition.
I have partitions under LVM, so after converting /home to btrfs, I just moved / under subvolume using rsync. I wonder what the cause might have been. Perhaps not enough space somehow? But that would be strange - I had a lot of free space on / before moving it, so it shouldn't be an issue... I won't mark it as [Solved], since what I did hardly could be considered as a workaround..
