Nautilus as root?

Postby chrosa » Wed Jul 31, 2013 21:49

Hi, i'm trying to get nautilus to run as root, but get this from output in the terminal window when i do: gksu nautilus

Initializing nautilus-open-terminal extension

(nautilus:8293): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: gsignal.c:2475: signal `slot-added' is invalid for instance `0xdd01b0' of type `GtkMessageDialog'

(nautilus:8293): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: gsignal.c:2475: signal `slot-removed' is invalid for instance `0xdd01b0' of type `GtkMessageDialog'

(nautilus:8293): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from `GtkMessageDialog' to `NautilusWindow'
**
ERROR:nautilus-window.c:1754:nautilus_window_get_slots: assertion failed: (NAUTILUS_IS_WINDOW (window))

also tried adding a shortcut from the applications menu like this:

sudo nano /usr/share/applications/Nautilus-root.desktop

->

[Desktop Entry]
Name=File Browser (Root)
Comment=Browse the filesystem with the file manager
Exec=gksudo nautilus
Icon=file-manager
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Application;System;

so it looks like it wont run as a super user, so anyone knows why? and can please help me with this?

Can it be that you would have to start the whole gnome shell as root first?

Or maybe not... I just started it successfully from a terminal in MATE.

running gnome 3 now, want go over to mate, but my UEFI laptop will not boot to the sabayon 13.04 mate boot usb, so think i just gonna emerge it in my already installed system.

It's just wild guess, but try running it with '--no-desktop' option, so it won't try to manage your desktop icons.
