Warning about background color when exiting vim [Solved]

Postby Honeyman » Sun May 26, 2013 0:46

Hey all,

I have vim installed on my Sabayon 11 system, I do not use gvim. Everytime when exiting a file I edited with vim or simply had it displayed by view, I get the following message:

Code: Select all
Warning: Color name "BACKGROUND" is not defined

Apparently there are not very many people around having this same problem, sofar I could not find a solution to this problem. It's not that vim is not working, but I find that behavior still somewhat annoying. All users on my system are affected by this warning.

I had a look into .viminfo and .vim_colorv_cache_fav, but there was no mention of BACKGROUND.

Does anyone know how to tackle this issue or where to look for a solution?

Thanks

By chance the problem was solved by a quite different issue. I was notified that my locale-settings appeared to be wrong and that I should change it to UTF8-compliant en_US.UTF-8

Which I did via:
Code: Select all
export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
export LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8

Before it had been set POSIX.

From then on vim had no more problems with the BACKGROUND color. I checked whether I could reproduce the problem by switching back to POSIX encoding and the problem reappeared. Hopefully this thread helps someone who also stumbled over that. 8)
