CHIRP Anyone?

Post by WildeGeist » Sun Apr 07, 2013 8:57

I am less than 24hrs New into Sabayon and need to Install CHIRP to program my HAM Radio.

CHIRP http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home

I am sure I will figure it out on my own eventually. But if anybody could get it added to the Sabayon Packages it would be helpful to others. Chirp is very popular in the HAM Radio Linux Users world.

Thanks ahead of time for any pointers.

Aloha

Georg

Hello Georg and welcome to Sabayon.

You can find chirp in portage, so it's possible to install it using emerge

Code: Select all

$ eix chirp
* net-wireless/chirp
     Available versions:  (~)0.2.3 (~)0.3.0 **9999
     Homepage:            http://chirp.danplanet.com
     Description:         Free open-source tool for programming your amateur radio

The wiki gives you the best guidance how to do that.

But since you are new to Sabayon it would be probably better to use the Bugzilla and request the package to be added in Entropy, that's the way it works.
You should be able to log in with the same credentials as for the forums.

I too would like to see this added to the Sabayon Packages.

I just searched https://bugs.sabayon.org/ and did find any requests for Chirp.

Georg, are you going to request the package to be added in Entropy? If you would prefer I can add the request, just let me know.

As I am as almost new as Georg, and not yet too familiar with the Sabayon Linux culture, I did not want to offend anyone or violate any protocols. I have found that in some other distribution's forums, one must be very careful to conform to their norms.

Thank you for adding this request.

Already in the testing repo: https://packages.sabayon.org/quicksearch?q=chirp
Should find it's way to main and weekly soon.
