XBMC and alsa ?

Postby n0nsense » Mon Feb 18, 2013 1:23

Hi,
After recent upgrade, i got an issue with XBMC 12.
The playback of the movies was at double speed.
After some research, i found that the issue is with HDMI passthroug.
When selecting analog in XBMC menu, movies playback is just fine, but without surround sound.
Since I'm unable to select anything but pulseaudio in XBMC settings, I was wondering:

if there is a way to add alsa output to XBMC settings ?
if there is a way to remove the PA and use alsa instead without removing Gnome ?

I do like the option to have a browser on HTPC.
Any other way to have AC-3, DTS passthrough is also good.
Any suggestions ?

Did you reboot or logout/login again?

After some big upgrades, a restart of services is required.

Yes I did ... Actually I had to due to the kernel and gfx driver update :)
I also tried to use different nvidia driver version.
The issue is communication between the computer and the receiver.
I found one post that described similar issue and it was resolved by switching to alsa.

Hi maulbongo,
Thanks for the help.
Yes, I tried that and unfortunately it does not help since I'm unable to select anything but PulseAudio in XBMC under System -> Settings -> System -> Audio output.
Any idea how to solve that without compiling XBMC ?

If you still see pulseaudio in xbmc, it is still running. Be sure to make everything as written and pulseaudio wont start anymore.
I did this on three machines and it works.
