SL 11-KDE:Now possible to unmount ext hdd [Solved]

Postby linuxfluesterer » Sat Feb 16, 2013 18:30

Hallo guys.
Welcome SL 11.
I just downloaded SL 11 KDE 4.9.5-64bit, created a USB-Memory stick and launched my laptop with. So far, so good.
Graphics is nice, sound ok ... all in all for the first view it looks good.
There is one problem I have on my actual system now (SL X KDE 4.9.5), mentioned in many forums and here maybe also.
It still exists in SL 11. Pls. consider, I use Live System.
After mounting my USB3-1TByte ext. disk, I can't unmount it in Dolphin. When I try click 'Savely unmount' then I receive:
Code: Select all
~umount /media/Toshiba-1TB-jfs/
umount: /media/Toshiba-1TB-jfs: target is busy.
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))

I can't also unmount as root in a cli. So, I did an:
Code: Select all
lsof | grep '/media/Toshiba-1TB-jfs/'
and received:
Code: Select all

I can't unmount only my USB3-1TByte disk with jfs. But another USB2! ext. disk with 500GByte with jfs I can easily unmount this 500Gb disk. Because of no error appears then.
Is this still a problem with Nepomuk??? I read, Nepomuk got better. Or is it maybe a 'JFS' problem?
And what can I do to my ext USB3-disk? Any idea?

I really hope, that by the Brexit (poor Britain), TTIP will be finally prevented. But don't get tired to talk to your local politician to open eyes for danger to democracy because of TTIP

Thank you for fast reply, Sabayonino...
I did what you've recommended. And now, I don't receive any error.
But .... then the conclusion is, that Nepomuk is buggy, am I right?
And this is a KDE project problem or?
I thought, Nepomuk is a 'backbone' of handling files KDE system.

check NepomukService Options .

Some options enable file indexing for removable media.

Set your Own.

In my case , (I'm using KDE) i disable fileindexing for all removable media

I don't think nepomuk is buggy but this service could keep busy some localfilesystem

Re: SL 11-KDE:Still not possible to unmount ext hdd [Solved]

As I said before, my 500GByte ext. disk is easily to be unmounted.
I checked, that removable media are set not to be indexed.
So, why my 500GByte (USB2) disk is not indexed and can be unmounted and
my 1TByte (USB3) disk is indexed (though removable) and can NOT be unmounted?
Pls. see, that both medias are removable medias with same file system JFS.
Good night for today, Sabayonino.

Dear Sabayonino.
I know, that removable medias are mounted in /media (because I often use cli and mc to handle with).
But my question was, why is it possible to unmount my 500GByte ext. disk (/media/SGT-500GB-jfs)
but NOT my 1TByte ext. disk (/media/Toshiba-1TB-jfs)?
And ... I googled, that other person have the same problem with this topic.

Check "Device Notification" options (in system tray)---> removable devices (or something like)

I'm suppose that there are some options to disable regarding automount ....

Ciao Sabayonino.
I don't automount...
I mount manually in every case of removable medias (USB-memory stick, USB ext. disk...).
I handle all medias manually, mount them, unmount them in Dolphin.
Memory sticks and 500GByte jfs disk (also another one ext. disk with NTFS) can be unmounted without errors,
but 1TByte ext. disk can NOT be unmounted (with activated Nepomuk).
By the way, do you have a big (USB3) ext. hdd with 1TByte or more? Did you try mount and unmount?
I mean, without changing any settings, just when run from Live system or just after fresh install on your internal disk.
