No problem here. KDE 32 bit kernel 3.6-r3. Have you tried different video formats or opening from CLI to see any error messages?

Your error message probably means something to someone else. All I can suggest is reinstalling VLC .
A google of xcb_xv vout display error: no available XVideo adaptor shows many people with the same error and some possible solutions. It may be worth looking at them.

infinality link seems broken or unlinked

check if you've installed

media-libs/fontconfig-infinality

and
app-admin/eselect-infinality

then use "eselect infinality list" to show full list
Code: Select all
# eselect infinality list

and choose your prefer profile (I suggest "Linux")
Code: Select all
# eselect infinality set <N>

to set ingfinality right links

Solved...thanks all. Not sure what fixed it. Did as Sabayonino suggested. No luck. Did reinstall. No luck. Went Tools/Preferences/Video/Output and started going through menu. When I selected X11 Video Output (XCB) vlc worked as it always has. Looks like Default, which is supposed to pick the best setting is not working properly. Did select different outputs yesterday before doing as Sabayonino mentioned but no luck. Probably a combination of both the above processes.
