Firefox 6 freezes my system

Postby Vitoriung » Fri Sep 02, 2011 16:59

hi, after the latest update, when running firefox 6 my system will freeze completely and has to be restarted.

Troubleshooting done so far:
- equo deptest && equo libtest
- firefox -safe-mode
- emerged firefox-bin-6.0 - same behavior
- run firefox in terminal - no msg
- other web clients, chromium and firefox-bin 3.6 work fine

I have no idea at this point what to do apart from some GNU debugger, but don't know how to use those tools.

Any help appreciative.

That's a good point however I forgot one my step I've done already -> create a new user and he can reproduce it also.

It's a bit strange issue, I realized that the freez comes eventually when using Chromium, but only after a while, when searching in google.

I am using XFCE, if I try to login into KDE, computer freezes as well on the KDE loading screen. Even a new created user can't login to KDE.

kdm.log shows
Code: Select all
WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/.
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ath_pci, it will be ignored in a future release.

kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
kdmgreet(7749)/kdecore (K*TimeZone*): KSystemTimeZones: ktimezoned initialize() D-Bus call failed:  "Not connected to D-Bus server"

Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

Could that be related to dbus?

I'm having the same issue at my work computer. This is causing issues since... well... it's my work computer. I need it to be running. I don't want to have to use Ubuntu or something like that.

It happens especially when I am downloading stuff. Updates through Entropy or downloads from Firefox and Chromium, doesn't matter. That's usually what will cause it. Also happens when I'm using different applications.

I initially thought it might be a bad drive, so I switched that out. Same results.

Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if you need me to dump some logs or anything.

edit: I am using the Gnome build of Sabayon but have installed LXDE since I can't stand GNOME3.

Maybe the problem is with KDE itself?
