dig missed [Solved]

Postby AlmaFuerte » Wed May 20, 2009 22:47

Hi everyone! I've recently upgrade Sabayon Linux 4.0 rc1 to Sabayon Linux 4.1 KDE. When i open a shell and try to use the dns lookup utility "dig" i've noted that is missed (it was included in 4.0 an previous versions). When i try to install it, i couldn't find it (i use emerge/portage).

Question1 -> Any ideas to install it?

Question2 -> Why this important tool is not included in the newest version of the distro???

Thanks!!!!

1. Install bind-tools

Code: Select all
$ eix bind-tools
[U] net-dns/bind-tools
     Available versions:  9.4.2_p2 9.4.3_p1 9.4.3_p2 (~)9.5.1_p2 (~)9.6.0_p1 {idn ipv6}
     Installed versions:  9.4.1_p1(17:29:47 31/01/09)(ipv6 -idn)
     Homepage:            http://www.isc.org/products/BIND/bind9.html
     Description:         bind tools: dig, nslookup, host, nsupdate, dnssec-keygen

2. It's easy enough to install.

Thanks Fitzcarraldo! I miss that dig is part of bind-tools.... :D
I agree that is easy to install, but i think that's a important tool to include from scratch... It's only my opinion!!! :wink:

Tip: eix is not included too...
