Amarok fails to run

Postby Jag » Sat Feb 14, 2009 19:34

Hi all! :)
I am new to Sabayon.
Installed Amarok 1.4.10 r1, but it fails to start.
Running in terminal reveals

Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
amarokapp: error while loading shared libraries: libgnutls.so.26: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I can't imagin KDE without Amarok
Will anybody pl. find time to guide?
Thanks in anticipation.

Seems like broken dependencies to me, because Amarok cannot find a lib it depends on. Make sure you have installed every package Amarok depends on, and try again. If you are inexperienced with installing, maybe just try to uninstall Amarok and then install it again with all dependencies (using Spritz package manager)

As root: equo update && equo install gnutls
To be precise, the package which has that library is net-libs/gnutls-2.6.3

Thanks frisil & DHalens for your valuable tips.

When tried to install 'net-libs/gnutls-2.6.3' through Spiritz,it is pulling on all the 105 updates [@850 MB disk space].
Though disk space is not a problem for me ,I have data transfer limit of 1 GB/month, moreever it may take 5 to 8 hrs. for 300 MB of download.
Even appling only critical/security updates is also not possible for me as Spritz always tries to download all 105!
So will it be better for me to try to get Sabayon 4 Lite MCE? Because while installing this Sabayon 4 [KDE] when I deselected some pakages it totally removed KDE.
Hence again I installed by deselecting Game only, which worked well.I do not have printer ,so wanted to remove 'CUPS' but again it is removing complete KDE.
I am in search of a rolling distro & liked Sabayon really, but finding ways how to continue using it.

Presently I am checking why I can't hibernate, though I can suspend to ram.

will post the reply if I successfully update the system.

BTW roughly how many updates per month [ in terms of MB] will be there once I do the initial updt of 105 pakages . My installation is of @9.6 GB which is without games.

Thanks all for your help.

With regards.

i have a fresh install of 4.0-r1 with kde desktop and i ran (as root):
emerge --sync
then i ran:
emerge portage
then i ran:
layman -S
then i ran:
emerge =amarok-1.4.10-r1

Then amarok works, but it's too soon to tell if there are any instabilities in the system as a result
