VLC Not Integrating Interface

Post by Gzus666 » Fri Jan 23, 2009 1:15

OK, fresh install of Sabayon 4 RC1 64 bit. VLC won't integrate the control interface into the video window no matter what I do. I have tried to play with the integrate option in the settings to no avail. Force updated to the newest version .9.8a and still not fixed. Is there any way to force this or do I just have to wait? It was working normally in Fedora and previous 3.5F Sabayon.

Strange. I'm using vlc-0.9.1 under SL 3.5 'plus' (i.e. various upgrades, 2.6.27 kernel etc.) x86_64 and it's working OK for me.

Looks like it's not a problem limited to SL: see e.g. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=56991

Yea, in the previous 3.5F I had it working just fine. I looked it up all over the place and still got nowhere. Was hoping someone found a way around this cause I find VLC to be the best player I have tried.

Came across the VLC forum and it's a known bug in VLC for versions < 1.0.*: http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=51124

Apparently it's fixed in the 1.* version of VLC. vlc-1.0.0_rc1 is currently masked in Portage.

Why do people use vlc? Its beyond me :o Smplayer is lighter on reasources, faster (it uses system libs) and more configurable.

I agree I think VLC is highly overrated. Even in windows it's not the best player.
