ManDVD not available [Solved]

Postby 5mattyb5 » Tue Jan 20, 2009 23:37

Hey I guys I gotta say I've used a few linux distros and Sabayon is by far my favorite. But I noticed after 3.5 loop2 ManDVD was no longer available. It's my understanding, which may or may not be right, that it can cause bugs in the software if we install the tarball ourselves instead of installing via entropy. Is this correct?

There's an ebuild for ManDVD in the Gentoo Bugzilla (Bug Report No. 235813): http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235813

See the SL Wiki or the thread gscan2pdf (good app.) and how to install using local overlay for how to build packages using your own local overlay. It's very easy. Just create the directory /usr/local/portage/media-video/mandvd/ and put the ebuild file mandvd-2.5-r4.ebuild in it and follow the other instructions in that thread.

First off thankyou very much for the reply. I almost thought it was going to work then I ended up with this error on the last step. Does this mean that I did something wrong or that the bug in mandvd is too severe?

localhost mandvd # emerge -1v mandvd
WARNING: repository at /usr/local/portage is missing a repo_name entry

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "media-video/mandvd" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- media-video/mandvd-2.5-r4 (masked by: corruption)

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

* GNU info directory index is up-to-date.

Nope, it probably just means that the checksum of the files downloaded doesn't match what is expected.

Try the following as root in a Terminal window:

Code: Select all
emerge --sync
emerge portage
layman -S

and then re-run the ebuild command and re-create the manifest.

EDIT: By the way, if you prefer to use Entropy instead of Portage then you could put in a request for the pre-compiled ManDVD to be added to the Entropy repository so that you would only need to enter "equo install mandvd" to install it. However these requests can take some time, so if you're in a hurry then Portage will have to be the way to go.
