Recover erased data, please help! [Solved]

Post by AlmaFuerte » Sat Dec 27, 2008 23:15

Hi everyone. I've a big problem. When i try to delete the contents of a directory, i make a mistake and i delete the contents of a directory with a lot of important information. The files in that directory were simple files, like pdf, tex, odt and so. The fs is ext3.
Can i recover the erased files????

Thanks a lot!!!!

Well, i can solve (at least partially) the problem. I've used a software tool called testdisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org).
This tool is not installed by default, so in first place

Code: Select all

#emerge app-admin/testdisk
Later, we can use the tool basically in this way

Code: Select all

#photorec -d /source_dir /dest_dir
where source_dir is the directory that we want to recover, and dest_dir is the directory where the tool will place the recover data.

With this tool i could recover a lot of information: 40182 files, including pdf, tex, jpg, odt, ods, png, etc...

I hope this can help somebody...
