Nope, no solution or reason found.

At the moment I am running the development branch 4 (at my own risk, because it is experimental) and haven't seen the issue there yet, but I can't remember opening an openoffice application. I will try it after work and post back. So probably it will be solved when Sabayon 4.0 is released...

Fixed in the new SL 4.0/4.0-r1, but, for those still using SL 3.5/3.5.1, I got rid of the problem by un-installing the binary versions installed from the Entropy repository and then used Portage to merge openoffice-bin-3.0.0 with the languages I wanted, as follows:

Code: Select all
# emerge -C openoffice openoffice-l10n-en_GB-2.4.1 openoffice-l10n-pt-2.4.1 openoffice-l10n-es-2.4.1
# LINGUAS="en_GB pt_BR es" emerge -1v =openoffice-bin-3.0.0

and installed the dictionaries I wanted by using the new OpenOffice 3 method (Tools > Package Manager) taking into account the message at the end of the ebuild:

Code: Select all
openoffice-bin does not provide integration with system spell
dictionaries. Please install them manually through the Extensions
Manager (Tools > Extensions Manager) or use the source based
package instead.

Dictionaries for english, french and spanish are provided in
/usr/lib64/openoffice/share/extension/install
Other dictionaries can be found at Suns extension site.

Please note that this release of OpenOffice.org uses a
new user install dir. As a result you will have to redo
your settings. Alternatively you might copy the old one
over from ~/.ooo-2.0 to ~/.ooo3, but be warned that this
might break stuff.
