Jack audio server; running as normal user

Post by chsims1 » Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:46

Hi All,

I'm having problems getting jackd to start using real time scheduling as a normal user. If I try to start the daemon with:

Code: Select all

jackd -R -dalsa
then I get the error:
cannot use real-time scheduling (FIFO at priority 10) [for thread -339331344, from thread -339331344] (1: Operation not permitted)
cannot create engine
The daemon starts fine if I run it as su or omit the realtime option.

After looking on the internet, I have ensured that I am a member of the audio group, and that my /etc/security/limits.conf file contains:

Code: Select all

@audio - rtprio 90
@audio - nice -5
@audio - memlock 1000000
but still no success.

Any ideas out there please?

Sabayon Linux 3.5 x86-64

Can anyone confirm that they are using Jack with real time scheduling in Sabayon Linux 3.5 as a normal user?
