codec for audio format 0x162

Postby Stupot » Mon Sep 17, 2007 5:08

I don't have it, I guess. When trying to watch a certain high quality (possibly HD) wmv file, I get an error saying that I don't have the audio codec and no sound plays. I'm pretty sure it's the exact same codec that keeps any sound from playing for either high bandwith versions of Halo Wars http://www.halowars.com/trailer.html .

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming that no one else who has viewed this thread could get this video to play with sound either.

Yes, the low quality version has sound for me too, but not the higher quality video. It's not even the HaloWars video that I'm concerned about, but a different high quality video that has no audio for the same reason that it won't play for the high quality HaloWars videos.

I have sound in this too, but it must be a big file as it buffers alot, try using kaffeine - I can't see the difference between the two links myself as far as quality goes.

After a bit of research, it seems as though this is a problem with AMD 64 bit processors that can be solved by using the 32 bit binary package of mplayer with the win32codec use flag. However, I don't see a win32codec flag, but it's no big deal. I boot into Windows to play some games, so I'll just watch the video there someday.

Code: Select all
USE="gtk quicktime divx gmedia realmedia wmp win32codecs nsplugin firefox xvid" emerge mplayerplug-in

I'm using the 64bit

I can watch the smaller video and hear the audio, but I cannot hear any audio when watching the larger video. I'm using SL x86-64 on an Intel Core 2 Duo T7200.

And I emerged mplayerplug-in manually in exactly the same way as wolfden (as well as also adding afterwards the same local USE flags to /etc/portage/package.use for future compilations).

I also tried the following mplayer commands to see if I could get any debug info. on this problem:

Code: Select all

I've tried running mplayer with "win32codecs" and "mp3lib" instead of "ffmpeg" but no dice. So I cannot find a way of playing 0x162-encoded audio either. Notice that the debug info above says that the codec for 0x162 is required and the codec "family" wma9dmo and wmadmo is required. There is no such codec or codec "family" for Gentoo, is there?

I also re-emerged mplayerplug-in just as wolfden described and it did not fix my sound issue. Kaffeine was no better.
