Next Firefox release

Postby msdobrescu » Thu Oct 12, 2017 18:18

Hello,

As you probably already know, the next Firefox version, 57, will break the current plugins support.
What do you intend to do? Is there a plan to postpone the upgrade?
Is there possible to have some LTS for the current version, 56?

I have requested the ESR version to be added into Entropy: https://bugs.sabayon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5515.
It's supported till next summer.

My solution for now:
Code: Select all
# emerge -a1 =www-client/firefox-bin-52.4.1

after their upgrade....
Mozilla said that the newer Firefox versions, will be modified... many add-ons will no more work, in versions upper to 56,

A good number of plugins have already been changed so that they will work with the new FF plugin system. I don't think this is going to really be an issue for many users. Most users will just be happy because FF 57 is supposedly a lot faster.

IMHO, for now, until I get all my favourite plug-ins ported to the new engine, I don't risk to go further.
I am happy with the current firefox configuration and I am willing to lose it.
I'd prefer to have it frozen somehow and to avoid updates with Sabayon's regular packages updates. Is that possible, without installing the ESR version?
