Installing VirtualBox guest additions Sabayon 15.08 [Solved]

Post by fusion809 » Wed Aug 19, 2015 14:50

Hi,

I have Sabayon 15.08 GNOME installed on a Virtual Machine (host machine is Windows 10, if relevant) and I have attempted to install the guest modules via following this guide with the yum/rpm commands replaced with their equivalent equo commands (although keep in mind I'm hardly a Sabayon expert so it is possible that I may have missed a dependency or two, so please if you think it is relevant give me a list of packages I would need). But sadly the guest additions failed and I can't copy-paste between my host and guest machine (and yes I have enabled the bidirectional clipboard in the VM's settings).

My VirtualBox version is 5.0.0 and I have also tried emerging the guest modules (with

Code: Select all

emerge -av =apps-emulation/virtualbox-guest-modules-5.0.0.5
), and this too failed. I also keep getting the notification:
VBoxClient: the VirtualBox kernel service is not running. Exiting
whenever I log in.

Thanks for your time,
Brenton

Oh hallelujah I found the solution myself. What I did wrong was I didn't add myself to the vboxusers user group (using

Code: Select all

gpasswd -a <USER> vboxusers
), after running

Code: Select all

./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
as root.
