VirtualBox Kernel 3.11 network issue [Solved]

Postby notzippy » Tue Sep 24, 2013 16:27

Hi

I switched to kernel 3.11 on my machine and I am getting an error something like Error: failed to start machine. Error message: Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-' (VERR_INTNET_FLT_IF_NOT_FOUND). When I go to configure the VM the bridge network option is there. and ifconfig -a shows a vboxnet0. Not sure where to troubleshoot from here. Any thoughts on this ? Switching back to kernel 3.10 works, so that is what I am running atm

thanks
Nz

Pls, check your network settings in Virtualbox. Maybe that's the point.
I've found this to your topic:
Code: Select all
I use the vbox ui control panel. The issue was bridge network setup was done with “wired” settings and I was running network in wireless mode. Once I connected wired network, all worked.

Same error message for me. After a little search, i found that if you have more than 2 virtual machines and uses bridged network adapter eth0 appears this message. If you change network adapter to NAT everything works fine. I dont know if it's kernel issue or vbox issue. I didn't search it.

Hmmm, isn't NAT default, when you create a new Virtual Machine?
Why you need bridged networks?
I have 4 Virtual Machines now, all have NAT settings. So I never had this problem.
Anyway, if you can work now, that's fine.

Hi

I need the guest to have access to the internet, but I also need the host to have access to the guest. Nat satisfies the first but fails on the second. I guess I could setup a couple of network adapters to work around this but that does not really resolve the fact that the bridge adapter is failing for 3.11 kernel.
