vmware-player 5.0.2 is installed -don´t run [Solved]

Postby ManfredB » Sun May 26, 2013 12:33

Hello

Today I installed Sabayon_Linux_DAILY_amd64_KDE.iso (20130522) on my HD.

VirtualBox-4.2.12 is installed and I can use it without problems.
Also I installed vmware-player and vmware-modules (kernel-3.9.0-server),
but I cannot use it as user, only as root.

Here some points I have to ask for:

1. /etc/conf.d/modules with VirtualBox- and VMware-modules, but kernel isn´t loading them.
lsmod shows nothing of VirtualBox or VMware-modules. What can I do?

2. How can I change it to use VMware-player as user?

3. /etc/vmware/bin/vmware-networks doesn+t run with --start.

Under gentoo I can use both virtual-programs as user without any changes.
I cannot understand it....

Thansk for help.

Manfred

I think that to happen for the new boot procedure with systemd.
For the loading of modules does not need /etc/conf.d/modules, the procedure is quite another.
See:
Code: Select all
# man modules-load.d
The service 'systemd-modules-load.service' shall load modules at boot.
In the dir /etc/modules-load.d/ many files are to be created '*.conf' as the number of modules to load.
Example:
Suppose you want to load the module 'vboxdrv'.
Edit a file: /etc/modules-load.d/vboxdrv.conf with the following content:
Code: Select all
     # systemd: boot module 'vboxdrv' for Virtualbox
     vboxdrv
Save and reboot
The same for the other modules.
Good job!

Additional note for VB users, the modules need to be placed on separate lines (unlike the modules file)
Code: Select all
#Loading VirtualBox modules
vboxdrv
vboxnetflt
vboxnetadp

for vmvare, the needed modules are:
Code: Select all
sababook bionel # cat /etc/modules-load.d/Vmware.conf

#vmware modules
vmmon
vmci
