Howto: KVM / Virt-Manager

Postby inktvis75 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 11:42

Hi,

I had some troubles using KVM and Virt-Manager. Maybe i can help some people with my solution:

1) Install qemu and libvirt:
Code: Select all
equo install qemu libvirt-manager

2) Add libvirtd to the boot-process
Code: Select all
sudo rc-update add libvirtd default

3) Set the right permissions:
Code: Select all
sudo gpasswd -a qemu kvm

Code: Select all
sudo chown root:kvm /dev/kvm

Code: Select all
sudo chmod 660 /dev/kvm

4) Make the above steps permanent: create a file: /etc/udev/rules.d/65-kvm.rules:
Code: Select all
 KERNEL=="kvm", NAME="%k", GROUP="kvm", MODE="0660"

5) Add yourself to the usergroup kvm
Code: Select all
gpasswd -a username kvm

6) Start libvirt
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/libvirtd start

7) Logout and start using virt-manager

I requested an account on the wiki. If you, or someone else is willing to review my postings (english is not my native language), i am willing to add several articles.
