kvm_intel

Post by glpnet » Wed Sep 26, 2007 7:08

When I boot I see kvm_intel module not loaded. What is it and do I need it, I have a core2duo.
When I do sabayonx86 ~ # sudo modprobe kvm-intel
WARNING: Error inserting kvm (/lib/modules/2.6.22-sabayon/extra/kvm.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting kvm_intel (/lib/modules/2.6.22-sabayon/extra/kvm-intel.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
sabayonx86 ~ #
Whats going on?
Thanks.

KVM = kernel virtualization manager / module or something along this lines and any "core" cpu can have this active although it has caused a few bugs on older pc's that does not have it in the cpu and caused booting bugs = disabled by default.

This is good if you run vmware / xen / similar virtual pc software but not necesarily needed not sure here think it is mostly for Qemu. As far as I know could be wrong but most of these virtual pc software have their own replacement for this.

Sorry in hands not brains mode so sry about lacking info. Just google for it.

Hope this helps
