GRUB setup

Post by tchoklat » Mon Apr 09, 2007 4:33

I have XP and SL configured for a dual boot. Works fine. I have just installed Ubuntu. How do I configure the GRUB to list Ubuntu as a bootup option.

Just Add Grub entry to grub.conf, by copy pasting the Sabayon entry and changing the title, kernel , root and initrd parameters.

I have ubuntu installed and there is my entry to /boot/grub/menu.lst:

Code: Select all

title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.17-11-generic
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-11-generic root=/dev/hda5 ro quiet splash locale=es_ES
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.17-11-generic
quiet
savedefault
boot
Replace 2.6.17-11-generic with your current ubuntu kernel (mount the partition and have a look) and change hd0,4 to your partition.

the 0 is the primary master hard disk and the 4 is the the fifth partition, like /dev/hda5 or /dev/sda5 depending f your kernel version.

You also need to copy /lib/modules/* from your Sabayon root directory to /lib/modules/* in your Ubuntu root directory
