Post by zvn » Wed Sep 23, 2020 5:54

Hi all,
http://pkg.sabayon.org/standard/sabayon ... e/amd64/5/
Last modification time is 19-Aug-2020
Is it normal?

It is correct and not normal.

We moved some things around in infra and currently are not able to bump weekly-repo (take a snapshot from sabayonlinux.org repo)
We know about this issue and are investigating how to fix it.

The problem is still under investigation.

Here are some details:
  • We moved our infra to K8s where nodes that don't necessarily run Sabayon Linux. This is mandatory for weekly update code. (We discovered this AFTER we moved to new infra)
  • We are looking into rewriting that piece of code so it can be generic and doesn't have to run on a Sabayon / Entropy environment.
Meanwhile, even though weekly is frozen for users since August 19th, we don't think those users are at risk. It is OK to not receive updates for a couple of weeks. However if you DO want to update to the real rolling repository you can use the "sabayonlinux.org" repository. Let me in short explain / remind you how Sabayon repositories are arranged.

- sabayon-limbo ( Development repository: Packages are compiled from Gentoo and packaged land here )
- sabayonlinux.org ( Staging repository: Packages moved from sabayon-limbo end up here for final testing, done by community )

At some point when we think all is OK we make a snapshot from sabayonlinux.org repository and this is sabayon-weekly

- sabayon-weekly ( Production repository: The default repo that should be used. )

So if you really want to switch you can use equo:

Code: Select all

equo repo enable sabayonlinux.org
equo repo disable sabayon-weekly
equo update
If you are not sure you better leave things as they are for now.

Thanks for the details. Is this issue also the reason for daily images not being built anymore since 20th of August?

Will this take longer or is it nearly fixed?
Would be great if somebody could give a state on this.
Just to know if it's worth to switch my machines to another repo.

Thanks a lot

I realize that I am asking this question from a position of total ignorance about the Sabayon Linux development infrastructure that is being used, so I ask the following question humbly. If you require a Sabayon Linux system in order to support the weekly update code, would a virtual machine running Sabayon Linux on the non-Sabayon host work for this purpose?
