Upgrade from a freshly installed 19.03

Post by crusader » Fri Jun 26, 2020 10:45

I tried this multiple times now, and I never got an upgrade of the freshly installed 19.03 working.
Since there is no newer version of the install ISO, it seems that the versions of equo and portage are far outdated, and are causing a system break, after an update.
Yet up till now, I couldn't find a propper instruction on how to do it the right way.
I asked in the chat multiple times, and it failed at least ones after every surpassed milestone.
I have three systems which I have had to reinstall to get them up and running again.
How can I get the equo and portage repositories to the latest status without breaking the system?
Am I the only one who has that issue?

You'll wanna install from the daily images until the next batch of monthly images are put out

http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/ ... daily.html

Also, you'll probably want to switch from the sabayonlinux.org repository that the daily images default to too sabayon-weekly with the following:

Code: Select all

sudo equo repo disable sabayonlinux.org

Code: Select all

sudo equo repo enable sabayon-weekly

Code: Select all

sudo equo update

I thought the dailies are not stable enough to be used as default images.
Isn't that true anymore?
In the past I have had multiple issues with those.

Yeah they aren't tested, but it's currently the only way to get a fresh working install of Sabayon, the stable images are too old now to be updated from. The daily images don't seem to have too many issues in my experience, but your mileage varies of course since they're automatically generated and one day's batch of images might have issues another day's batch doesn't. For example, I installed from a KDE daily once and multilib was just broken because of a profile upgrade and how the image was generated with outdated directory structures, but I got in contact with a dev on irc and they added it to the bugtracker, and I haven't encountered that problem since.

I've tried this, but it broke my equo/portage.
Any way to get the latest daily/weekly to fix the issue with an ISO install?
Cause now a fix will be hard, due to haveing a broken system.

You could try this:

viewtopic.php?f=86&t=35845&hilit=upgrad ... 40#p185757
That's what I tried and it totally broke my whole system.
Is there a way to fix my broken system with a LiveISO install of the latest daily?
The biggest issue is, that I'm using an encrypted disk, and that is not visible in the setup of the dailies installer.
