Should I update the kernel to 5.0 series? [Solved]

I just came back to Sabayon after a mild detour. The ISO ships with 4.20 kernel, but it has reached EOL afaik. Now does it get security updates from Sabayon's repos? Or should I just update to the latest kernel that is in the repo?

I would recommend installing and using the latest kernel available. But since Sabayon has slotted kernels, you will still have the 4.20 kernel available to boot should things go awry.

Note: if things do go really bad and you're using proprietary nvidia drivers, you might not immediately have a graphical interface when booting other kernels, but that's quickly remedied by using the kernel-switcher to switch back to the older kernel.

Make sure you use Sabayon's kernel switcher for the whole thing to ensure not just the kernel changes, but all the required modules too.

To see available kernels

Code: Select all

# kernel-switcher list
Then switch to the one desired, e.g.

Code: Select all

# kernel-switcher switch sys-kernel/linux-sabayon-5.1.16

Me also, i upgraded to the latest kernel.

All my Sabayon installations are working and upgrading like a charm...

Sabayon now, is turned to a very stable distro, even with their very good Rolling Release....

old problems with the kernel upgrade, no login in certain login managers, instability in KDE, no more occurs in my installations, and all odf my Sabayons are "rolled".

As in other mine posts a comments, Congratulations to the Team of Developers! Still continue to be, for me, the best Linux Distro. I use since 2007... 11 years,
