Forum upgrade

Post by Ryuno-Ki » Thu May 24, 2018 20:48

Dear Sabayon community,

you probably have noticed it. The forums got an uplift. I want to explain some background.

Until a few days ago we ran an about three years old version of this forum.
Not because we are lazy, but because there was a nasty bug which prevented an upgrade.
(reported in January this year, still not fixed). It took some time to research how to work around it.

What does that mean for you?

The upgrade sadly brought some (temporary) drawbacks with it.
Namely we had to reset the themes and language packs.
They are incompatible with the current version.

The provider offers new versions to install, but that needs a bit of time of one of the admins. Please be patient.
I plan to look into whether we can restore our Sabayon theme. If anybody has experience with PHP (or phpBB), please reach out to me :)

What comes next?

With this version of phpBB we can now make use of its extension ecosystem.
Especially Privacy Policy will become important in the near feature.
It adds function to make the forum GDPR-compliant. Currently the situation is unclear, whether we as pure community-driven distribution are bound to GDPR, but it doesn't hurt to be on the safe side, does it? ;-)

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me.
