Plasma not running at boot

Post by Lazydog » Sat Sep 23, 2017 3:45

Hello,

So I re-installed Sabayon and run into a few issues which I to date have been able to work through, i.e.,

Would not boot from UEFI. Need to rename grubx64.efi to bootx64.efi now the system boots.

Next issue is I'm trying to get Plasma to start at boot but it doesn't want to start. I disabled lightdm and enabled sddm. Still doesn't start but I can get it running from the the cli with systemctl start sddm. Now what am I missing here?

Code: Select all

# systemctl status sddm.service
● sddm.service - Simple Desktop Display Manager
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/sddm.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: active (running) since Fri 2017-09-22 20:36:24 EDT; 2h 9min ago
     Docs: man:sddm(1)
           man:sddm.conf(5)
 Main PID: 2439 (sddm)
    Tasks: 4 (limit: 4915)
   CGroup: /system.slice/sddm.service
           ├─2439 /usr/bin/sddm
           └─2442 /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp -auth /var/run/sddm/{9e9ff721-64ac-4398-b96c-b013388fb60a} -background none -noreset -displayfd 18 vt1

Sep 22 20:36:48 sabayon.local sddm[2439]: Greeter stopped.
Another thing I would like is to have the SDDM login screen. How can I do this?

Thank you kindly for your time.

please, try this....

Execute these commands:

Code: Select all

# systemctl stop lightdm.service
# systemctl disable lightdm.service
# systemctl disable sddm.service (run even when sddm is loading in boot)
# systemctl enable sddm.service -f
then, reboot the computer:

Code: Select all

# systemctl reboot

If this is not sufficient, this may be related to PAM.

Try edit the file: /etc/pam.d/sddm and this will be similar to my file:

Code: Select all

#%PAM-1.0

auth include system-login
account include system-login
password	include system-login
session include system-login
-auth optional	pam_kwallet.so kdehome=.kde4
-auth optional	pam_kwallet5.so
-session	optional	pam_kwallet.so
-session	optional	pam_kwallet5.so auto_start
Now, edit the file: /etc/pam.d/sddm-greeter. My file is:

Code: Select all

#%PAM-1.0

# Load environment from /etc/environment and ~/.pam_environment
auth required pam_env.so

# Always let the greeter start without authentication
auth required pam_permit.so

# No action required for account management
account required pam_permit.so

# Can't change password
password	required pam_deny.so

# Setup session
session required pam_unix.so
session optional pam_systemd.so
session optional pam_elogind.so
Please make a search in the Net, for "sddm and PAM", since they are some issues related to this.
