Starting from the beginning of March 2014, running OpenRC is no
longer supported. In February 2013 we began rolling out systemd.
Now, after one solar year, we are happy to announce that the
migration period is over, and we will be no longer supporting
systems running openrc.
If you installed your system from Sabayon 13.04 onwards, you
should be already set. If you did not migrate to systemd, your
system may stop working properly if you apply all the updates.
To know if you are running systemd, open a terminal and type
"cat /proc/1/stat", if you read "(systemd)" you will be fine.
For support, see URL.

Sabayon's embrace of systemd and up to date Gnome packages are why I've switched to it from debian after using it for over ten years.

It looks like there's no way back, it's just a question of time: Systemd adoption.

@andreios
As you can see, Gentoo Linux (where Sabayon Distro is based on) still uses OpenRC (by choice).
But that is hardcore stuff. I think, there are many more serious problems with a rolling distro like Sabayon has, than to think about an older initi procedure. Systemd has its advantages. Concentrate on your system now. That's best, what you can do. I am content with Systemd, I can handle it (so far) and it seems to improve my system.

You know, I got to give a lot of credit to the folks here in the Sabayon forums. The people on most of the other boards that I'm familiar with would have chewed you up and spat you out for such a post. And I don't mean to be impolite either, but it's pretty evident you've had 0 involvement with the community the last couple years and done 0 research in the forums before submitting your post, to not be aware of the status of openrc.

I was a hold-out for openrc too. I just made the switch a few months ago (at the point where things quit working with openrc). I've used openrc for years and it's easy for me because I'm so familiar with it. But I've got to admit, systemd isn't all that hard to learn and use.

I'm sorry, I was (I am) really confused, to whom your post is been meant to. Finally, I hope you mean the initiator of this thread? If so, then I understand, why you say.
But the main problem (as you've said) is convenience and the circumstance, that many things, procedures, libs and so on change and sometimes there will be a good result also.
Anyway, when something is really working (exactly for me in KDE, e.g. bluetooth or Korganizer sync with Google calendar) and then, for what reason ever, it doesn't work anymore, that is another topic.
I agree with you, I also give a lot of credit to the members in Sabayon forums. So, then, let's go on, support each other, if we can.

I have just search for it before submiting my post. But there was nothing to find for some reason. What ever.
I wondered about systemd and openrc because all new DVD releases are just not able to switch back to openrc.
And there is not notice in equo on the new installed system.
Do you even have any link to a change log where this is mentioned?

Why I Say get back openrc? Because Systemd will be renamed to SKYNET some day. I could also say, you have had 0 knowlegde about systemd and why many programmers have a problem with this idiotic concept against all what is called free software

I am just happy I can switch back to a sane System called Gentoo, anytime I want.
