New Install and System Upgrade took 5 hours

Postby wirefox » Sat May 03, 2014 3:24

Is this normal? 5 hrs to do a system upgrade @ 165kbs, 1600mb 762 installs. I had Delta enabled and packages-autoprune-days = . Used sudo equo in terminal and didn't use equo clean. Way to long for an update for me!

Is your internet speed limited to 165 kbs? If not, it sounds like you should have done a mirror-sort.

For the Daily repository, use:
Code: Select all
# equo repo mirrorsort sabayonlinux.org

For the Weekly repository, use:
Code: Select all
# equo repo mirrorsort sabayon-weekly

That will get you using the fastest mirror for you.

Thx Stupot for reply, I did the equo repo mirrorsort sabayon-weekly and 165kb was the fastest, hopefully full system upgrade isn't required very often or is it? I'm very impressed with Sabayon KDE, it's definetly a top notch OS very refined, fast and beautiful, a keeper for sure.

Hi,

When you did mirrorsort, did it choose another mirror or always keep using the same?

no, is not required but recommended ... you can stay many months without any update but then if you need a specific package update you will get so many background packages updates that is practically a full system update

when you got that, hundreds of packages upgrades required for only one package version bump you know is time for a full system upgrade ( and a full system repositories updates, don't forget that!)

You make MORE money USING it, just like google!
