May be avoid latest version for now.
Since you told us that it was a latest Samsung laptop, did you turned off "secure boot" in the bios and allowed legacy boot ?
This could be a major problem.
I suspect something is not correctly set in the bios. It seems to be a fairly standard Intel processor and it should work with Sabayon 14.01 for sure. Did you wipe the disk before ? Is there another OS still on it ? What type of segfault did you get from the kernel ? Any error messages ? What type of partitioning system was used : gpt ?
The more info you give, the more we can help!
You completely got me. I have little idea of what you typed. 14.01 Gnome fresh install, straight install without any modifications, entire hdd was used and harddisk doesn't boot and boot menu showing boot from hdd or cd pops up.
Daily KDE 20/April/2014 and boot from dvd works and click on start [first option - Sabayon Start] kernal panic.
I fell in love with Sabayon without using it on harddisk. I only booted 14.01 Gnome from usb pendrive and I used second time the other version, the Xfce Forensics daily edition from DVD boot... no problems with that what so ever. 14.01 Gnome office was missing? Others said they had office... probably something went wrong.
I fell in love with Sabayon because of two reasons I love most...
Reason 1: Out of the box.... problem Xfce Forensics is not out of the box, it has no office and no pdf reader. I hate other non out of the box distros because there is some serious work to do... need to install this or that and shouldn't miss anything.
Reason 2: Rolling release. I am an update junky... I always update, update and update so this really turned me on.
Sorry guys for bashing Sabayon. This is my personal experience, a total bad one.
