Question about CPU frequency [Solved]

Postby Ann » Mon Sep 23, 2013 23:41

Hi! So I was testing Sabayon again and I noticed that with it, my system runs cooler than in ArchLinux and I wondered why. I noticed the graphics card installed by default when I boot the LiveCD is the propietary AMD driver 13.8b2 (I have AMD Radeon 6550M), running kernel 3.10. So maybe something there is the reason (here the GPU temp is like 5 degrees lower).

But I noticed the CPU is also cooler and by default it's running at the lowest frequency (1.20MHz) (unless required otherwise), and I wonder, since I can' t find cpufreq installed, what is it using to scale the frequency? I would love to know if someone has the answer. :)

in my Sabayons i see that IS the cpufreq as kernel module, that controls the frequency:

Code: Select all

Oh, ok! Thanks! I just wondered because the package cpufreq was not installed by default, so that made me doubt.

Thanks again for answering my question. :)
