BumbleBee: bbswitch pull the wrong kernel

Postby mahalay » Fri Jul 26, 2013 13:34

Hello,

My kernel is linux-sabayon-3.10

uname -ar
Code: Select all
Linux ld2jl.localdomain 3.10.0-sabayon

When installing bumblebee by "equo install bumblebee -p"

it results to:
Code: Select all
>>  ## [N] [sabayon-weekly] sys-kernel/linux-server-3.9.4|0
>>  ## [N] [sabayon-weekly] sys-power/bbswitch-0.7#3.9.0-server|0
>>  ## [N] [sabayon-weekly] x11-misc/bumblebee-3.2.1|0

Why would it pull linux-server ? Is that the expected behavior? Is it not possible to install bumblebee without having to install a different kernel?

TIA, Kind regards
mahalay

Hallo Mahalay.
You can just check as root in a console for your own Kernel with:
Code: Select all
equo search bbswitch#$(uname -r)

and, if you are content, then install with
Code: Select all
equo install bbswitch#$(uname -r)

Then you can do:
Code: Select all
equo install bumblebee#$(uname -r)

I've got a hint to install the correct modules and .bin file for my Virtualbox here:
https://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=30011&p=162944&hilit=virtualbox#p162930

Hope this will help you also.

Hi Linuxfluesterer,

Thanks a lot. Based on the link that you provided, Lxnay, said it himself that detection of the currently kernel is hard, and that's the reason why I was getting the symptoms I described.

Although I know how to install the right package - specifying the relative kernel, I was under the impression that if I "force" it, I would break something. It worked just fine.

Kind regards
