Skype connect only if root

Post by ezioze » Thu Jul 11, 2013 11:16

Hi all.
After last update, skype works only if started as root.
If started as normal user it won't connect
Any help?

Run Skype from the command line in a Konsole/Terminal window under your own user account, and paste here the output.

Code: Select all

$ skype

Hi.
This is what i see:
Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 70: non-double matrix element
Fontconfig error: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 70: non-double matrix element
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf", line 78: saw unknown, expected number

then skype start but it doesn't connect (grey icon rotating) and no other messages
(to close skype i have to do CTRL+C in terminal)

Please post the output of the following command, issued in a Konsole/Terminal window under your own user account:

Code: Select all

ls -la ~/.Skype/

All that looks OK to me. Try the following:

Code: Select all

$ mv ~/.Skype/ ~/.Skype.bak/
then start Skype under your own user account, not root.

Have you checked if any other process is accessing the Skype lock file simultaneously? After you launch Skype under your own user account, open a Konsole/Terminal window and enter the following commands:

Code: Select all

$ lsof | grep '.Skype'
You can tell the process ID for Skype by using the command:

Code: Select all

$ ps -ef | grep skype
The only process accessing the .Skype files should be Skype. If any other process is trying to access them, kill it:

Code: Select all

$ kill -9 <process ID>

Although I don't think it is the cause, have you checked if all the dependencies, libraries and configuration files are correct?

Code: Select all

# equo conf update
# equo deptest
# equo libtest
Have you tried uninstalling Skype and re-installing it?
