Integrate TuxOnIce in the Sabayon Kernel again?

Post by ElDuderino » Sun May 19, 2013 23:23

Hi,

Sabayon used to come with the tuxonice (Better SuspendToDisk mechanism with UI and ability to cancel hibernation) patch by default (tuxonice.net), but it stopped to be published for recent kernels (3.x) upstream. Now, it's on again and there are patches for all current kernels.

Can it be re-integrated into the Sabayon Kernel again?

Where can I make an official "feature request" or something like that?

Thanks for considering!

The thing I hated the most was that on every new kernel release, the release of sabayon kernels was blocked by the unavailability of up-to-date tuxonice patches. Taking one week to update the patches is unacceptable for me (I love 0day kernel bumps).

I understand, but it seems it's going faster now, it even has one for kernel 3.9.3!

3.9.4 came in through limbo today, and TOI patch is available, too! Fast enough?

I will see how it goes when 3.10 is out.

Maybe we can create a second kernel flavour which is not exactly bleeding edge.
Someone who use sabayonweekly or sabayonlinux.org repos gets the newest kernel anyway in a week or more - mostly more because the kernel doesn't upgrade automatically through equo update and tuxonice is one of the features I would also like to have in sabayon.
And I think most of the users use sabayonweekly because it's enabled by default.
