You could celebrate kind of "release party"

As a rolling release that must mean a non-stop party. :)

Being a non-technical user; Mine will just be my Linux history followed by my experience of how it is now. It won't be a technical review - I wouldn't know where to start - but a way of letting people know that there is an alternative that knocks the socks of the competition. The first 400 words are written and when it's finished I shall post the link and you can all learn my naughty little secrets from my blog. :)

Daily is fine. The delay is used to fix some issues, but I think, they'll deployed in the daily repos first. So just a smidgeon more instable.

thanks, I was a bit confused...because I'm coming from arch with a usual approach to give updates any second (with known problems) ;) and after I installed the daily of sabayon (end of january) there was no update.

/etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d/
Code: Select all
_entropy_sabayon-limbo
_entropy_sabayon-limbo.example
entropy_sabayonlinux.org
entropy_sabayonlinux.org.example
README

Hope this looks fine, I've to read the wiki (excessive) :)

So far I'm very surprised sabayon isn't more popular, it's an amazing distro, used it back in summer 2012 on my notebook and had some issues. After some bad experiences with arch and fedora I tried sabayon again and all the issues (small ones) I had in summer are gone, I hate reinstalling and the bad installers of other distros, sabayon gave me anything I wanted (lvm, luks). A couple days ago I installed sabayon on my nb and desktop...It's the best "out-of-the-box" experience I had so far (tweaked xfce to the death with preinstalled infinalty and I love it :) ) !!!!

Keep up the great work guys!

Thanks.
Do you know, that you can "burn" the Live ISO on an USB pen, too? This will save expenses for the CD/DVD.
Sadly I'll have a time as of next month. Exam terms here …
But I already downloaded the ISOs :)
I'll report about it on German in my own wordpress blog, too and link here. There'll be a translation into English (probably on Google+), I guess.

8) Just completed migration of desktop to new MB, CPU and case. The new case (designed to be quiet) has a closed door in front, thus a cd/dvd drive isn't as accessible as before.

I didn't even install a DVD/CD drive (as unetbootin creates nice bootable USB sticks/pens) since the only use I've had is to burn ISOs for other people. :bom:

Thanks again to all the devs for excellent work, sabayon just keeps getting better! :D

Hm, depends. entropy_sabayon-weekly is missing.
If you want to add it, either read about Repositories or simply run the following:

You can spread the word as suggested in the inital post of this thread ;)

The Sabayon community on Google+ linked some more articles like the one from Phoronix.

Indeed, but there is a lot of competition. We must not forget 2 things:
1) Sabayon is an out of the box installation but not an out of the box maintenance. You still need terminal to upgrade kernel and such and when upgrading virtualbox f.ex you still need to do modprobe and edit conf.d/modules again.
With (K)Ubuntu this is automated, most people never have installed an operating system.
If you want to spread the word it must be able to reach the people and as long terminal should be used in a Linux distro you can opt out the majority of possible new Linux users.
2) There is also Arch Linux, with some 'out of the box' alternatives such as Chakra Linux. Arch has as much faster update/upgrade schedule then Gentoo and I think most users who choose an rolling distro will fall for that as excuse instead of choosing Gentoo/Sabayon.
