Switch on tty by pressing meta key since update

Postby memnach » Thu Jan 03, 2013 20:47

Hello everyone,

I face a new problem since I update my Sabayon X KDE last week. I switch to the tty with some combinaison of keys. for instance, if I type on the meta key (windows key), I go to tty1. Same thing if I type on alt and the right arrow.
As I configure most of my shortcuts with the meta key, it is a little annoying.
Does somebody have a solution to avoid that ?

Thank you and happy new year :)

switch to tty(X) pressing CTRL+ALT+F(n)

this doesn't depend on DE

Hum, yes I know that but it's not the problem. The problem is that when I press meta (or alt and right arrow) I switch to tty. And I don't want to because I use use meta for custom shorcuts.
And I don't know how to disable this to be able to re-use meta as I want.

@sabayonino: As he mentioned earlier: KDE ;-)

@memnach: Are you looking for something like this? Or how did you defined them?

I guess, X=n here :-)

I would like to ask you, memnach, to use this shortcut, because it works cross all desktop environments/window manager and Linux distros ;-)

Erf I think i'm not that clear, that's not the problem.
To sum up
Before update
- keyboard fine, and to go to tty, i press CTRL+ALT+F(1), F(2), ....
- I create some custom shortcuts with the window key (meta key), like meta+c to launch konsole, meta+d to launch Dolphin.

After update
- Keyboard is fine, but
- Everytimes I press the window key, I switch to tty. So if I press window+c I go to the tty and must press CTRL+ALT+f7 to switch to X. And I have a konsole launched. So the shortcuts are good, but the keyboard switch to tty.
- The problem is actually the same as expressed in http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-90 ... b17b83e174, but the proposed solution does not work for me.
- Furthermore, i realise that i got an error in my rc.log
Code: Select all
 * Loading key mappings [fr-latin9] ...
keysym inconnu « compose »
/usr/share/keymaps/i386/azerty/fr-latin9.map.gz:540: syntax error
Erreur de syntaxe dans le fichier de mappe
affectations de touches inchangées
 * Error loading key mappings
 [ !! ]
 * ERROR: keymaps failed to start

I try to reinstall kbd but it doesn't change anything.
What I want to have is the same situation as before the update.
Thank you for helping me :D

That is exactly my case and it bugs me as hell! I have been trying to fix it for two days but without results. I have disabled the virtual terminals through the inittab, but they still appear, without a prompt. Some folks at linux forums (an old topic) said that you should append the following lines to xorg.conf
Code: Select all
Section "ServerFlags"

Option "DontVTSwitch"
Option "DontZap"

EndSection

Tried it but it doesn' t work. And when I press meta+f4 itn switches to an empty tty4 instead of closing the window. Annoying, but it will be fixed. Just I haven `t found out yet. Any ideas, geekiness or wise guru advise is welcome, no humour or irony intended, I am just desperate...:-[

It seems that it will be to weekly in a... week :-)
Does anybody know how a can switch to daily overlay?
