Keyboard Lockups Sabayon X [Solved by Sabayon ReInstall]

Postby sqlpython » Thu Nov 08, 2012 17:54

Original Install was Sabayon X Gnome 3..then added Xfce 4..
Lenovo Thinkpad SL410 320 HD with 5 partitions and 5 Linux installs..
............Debians:(Squeeze, Wheezy, Sid) Slackware 13.1, Arch, & Sabayon X
All installs are Xfce4 as well as OpenBox the Slackware also has KDE and the Sabayon Gnome3 and Xfce4

All Installs are without any evidence of the Keyboard or Any Hardware failure symtoms..
...
Once Keyboard stops working and it stops Entirely not a single key will respond.
The TouchPad continues to respond perfectly.
I close all apps and Logout then Login and all works again but I can't continue to work like this..........
I will check /var/logs and post more...
If anyone had any ideas please share?

Right at the moment I am happily typing along but waiting for next Freeze.. :)

Anyway for those interested:
Apparently, Debian is seeing this problem also with the 3.5 kernel. One of the suggested work arounds for Some Keyboards is to load in the hid_generic module.. But the Crew at Sabayon has already taken care of that one. Obviously I continue to have a problem including with the hid_generic module loaded... no relief..

So, temporarily, (unlike any of my other installs) I loaded the IBM Thinkpad T61 keyboard which is like mine.
I will wait and watch this configuration and post back.

I know that this has been a hot topic.. heh heh... so I am posting my progress..
Ok
Tried another Keyboard... and locked twice more in 2 days.
..Locked again today so I Modified the Keyboard Config to
V Disable Touchpad...While Typing

The Touchpad is Synaptics..
As my thumbs do and will touch the Touchpad as I type causing the Cursor to Jump around the Screen.
This has been a minor problem for all the 2 years that I have owned the Thinkpad SL410 (lenovo)//
Now without these two interfering with each other Keyboard/Touchpad maybe the Keyboard Crashes/Lockups will cease.

Yours Sincerely,

Just keeping the progress or lack of alive...
Well, all my other Distros on this machine merrily bounce along, no lockups
Debian(Squeeze/Wheezy) Slackware 13.1, Arch..
Typing this from Bridge/Arch ...
... I am because SabayonX Xfce4 continues to Lose the Keyboard..Twice tonight.
I can't find a solution. I try to remember to save frequently but some times I forget. I get involved coding..
This time a NEW DEVELOPMENT.
Unlike all the other occurences, I could not regain use of the the Keyboard by Logging out. I had to reboot twice in a 30 minute period...
Really unusual behavior.

I have very little clue on this issue, but have you by any chance activated usbautosuspend on the kernel boot for that machine?
Also, does this issue happen only with Xfce?
Did you try an older kernel to check if that is the issue?

Thanks very much for the feedback Micia.. :^)
I have read of other BUGS filed due to lock ups with Kernel 3.5. At this time I have no immediate interest in rolling back the kernel as I am unsure that will be a solution and do not want to spend unproductive time doing so. If it is a Kernel issue I will wait.

Regarding the usbautosuspend.... my machine is a Laptop. The Keyboard is PCI.
In fact the only time I use a USB is to
A: Transfer info from my Android
B: plug in the Occasional Scanner for a minute or two.

Lastly, the issue also occurs in SabayonX with Gnome3 ..Same install.

I welcome any other ideas...

Update:
Could be Solved and I am now watching for a repeat to the evidence observed.
Today I lost my Keyboard again.
This time I saw a Desktop Notification PopUp stating SlowKeys but I didn't notice that it said enabled...(I think it did). The notification disappeared by itself automatically and Quickly.

I logged out and back in and the Keyboard was back again.
What I should have checked first was the Settings/Accessibility to see if SlowKeys were enabled.
I will next time.
Now I do not enable SlowKeys by default on login. Somehow it started itself up.. How? Not in my Autostart.

I have marked Solved due to this BUG fix

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... +bug/41427
Read Post #41 and #42
..Seems more of a Gnome issue. As I had originally installed Gnome3 first here.
Which can be affected here in Xfce4
[email protected] ~ $ xfce4-accessibility-settings
Or in Gnome3 here
[email protected] ~ $ gconf-editor
[email protected] ~ $ gnome-control-center

I am embarrassed to say that I did not after all fix the issue.
Keyboard Lock Ups Continue.
I am thinking to
A. Uninstall Gnome Desktop and accessories OR
B. Reinstall

I will try A. first ...
As this is the Only Distro that I get this Keyboard problem.. can't find this to be a Sabayon fault.
