File system in btrfs not loaded [Solved]

Post by kxp » Tue Jul 24, 2012 22:23

Hello

I have a big problem, i was using skype and my pc crashed, I turned the laptop off and power it up and when I was trying to do my log in, it keep failing, and then tried with root but fail too. Then i go to terminal mode and try to log in my user acc and I got this message:

Code: Select all

No Directiry, logging in with HOME=/
(that smile was there xD)
Before proceed with this i need to add this important info, When I installed sabayon I decided to create different partitions for /boot, /home, /swap, and / , as you can see in fdisk but with a missing /home, this partions was in btrfs file system, until now i didn't had any kind of trouble.
I did some didging and I got this message in rc that says:

Code: Select all

 * Mounting local filesystems ...
/etc/init.d/localmount: line 16: 6838 Segmentation fault mount -at "$types" $no_netdev
 * Some local filesystem failed to mount
(full log is abode)
When I do

Code: Select all

mount /dev/sda6 /media/folder
the terminal crash.

What happen? Can I recover the files? Its my home folder its everything in there. if my disk is broken i can send to warranty but first I need to recover the data.

Please tell me what I can do.

Try to mount with "-o nospace_cache" or "-o clear_cache".

Try "btrfs-zero-log /dev/sda6"

If that doesn't work, have you ever built a custom kernel before?

I see a reference in the Btrfs mailing list about a very similar problem

http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-btrfs ... 17346.html

If btrfs-zero-log doesn't work, we'll need to find a way to get you on a patched kernel.

I have some good news and bad news, your suggestion didn't work, maybe if I want to fix this problem for good I have to rebuilt the kernel.
The good news is after I read the link that you posted, i proceed to other links, https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Main_Page and followed up to https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Restore, and tried to restore the filesystem apparently is working and takes time, if this is enough to recover the files maybe i don't need to patch the kernel(but I should learn how to do it), since I wanna send my laptop to warranty for replacement.
Well i think I did, it toked 10 hours to recompile.

Btrfs doesn't boot directly.
/boot folder must be mounted to separate partition (etx3-4 or other)

Boot partion is in ext4, the btrfs is "/home" and "/".
This may take a while maybe more than 12 hours.

something happen, i ran out of space i forgot that drive("/") is too small, i rebooted and i don't really know what happen but it seems like restore worked better than i thought, and now I have all back and sabayon is running well, i can log in again!
Seems solved:)
