[SOLVED] mouse select rectangle leaves a trail on a desktop

Postby anagor » Tue Dec 05, 2006 23:27

Hi all,
Long time not see :)
I was on a vacation... anyhow
Upon my return I've found that SL 3.2 is out, so after installing it (clean install) and updating to the latest packages a strange error appeared:
In KDE, if I select with mouse (drawing a rectangle upon selected area) several icons on desktop or within Konqueror , the area that is free of icons does not get repainted , the selection rectangle just remains there.

I'm using beril/AIGLX, but the error remains in kwin also.
The work around for now is to change the background image or to switch to another vt and then back.
On gentoo forums there is one similar post with same problem, but he is referring to kde 3.5.4, and pertty patches, which in kde 3.5.5 are always applied. :(
My xorg.conf is unchanged since install.
Any suggestions?
Where to look, what to check?
thanks.

Also here is my emerge info:
You may notice that I had kdehiddenvisibility USE flag removed, this is because of the change in kde related eclasses, now this flag is applied automatically whenever an application supports it.

Previously it was compiled with pertty, it comes that way on DVD.
I will try to remove the flag, see what happens.

Thanks.

As always you were right ;)
compiling kdelibs and kdedesktop without pertty flag helped.

thanks.

seems the patches don't totally work yet, only with most video drivers, damn

Well, the version of kde that comes with 3.2 works fine after install ( also SL 3.1 worked fine too),
the error only appeared after I've updated world, which updated a lot of kde stuff because of the kdehiddenvisibility flag removal, so its possible that after an update something broke the "pertty" patches. If I recall it correctly update world included also qt3 and some xorg packages.

cheers;

could have been, if you want those back, you can emerge the versions that are in the sabayon overlay which have the correct patches and such
