Adding mirror for Sabayon iso and entropy [Solved]

Postby dudumomo » Wed Jul 06, 2011 2:14

Hi there,
It seems that Sabayon doesn't have a lot of mirrors, especially for entropy. (It can be quite slow, especially in Asia, but also in USA If i remember)

I'm running a good dedicated server in France and are willing to share some ressources for the project.
However I cannot find what I need to do, what are the requirement, etc...

Hence, this post will help me to create a mirror but also allow others to do the same thing (I might write an article on the wiki to clear the things up)

So I guess, I'll need to use rsync and to sync once a day (Or more ?), but with which host?
Any needs for headers or special things?

Thank you for your explanation.

I did 2 days ago and I'm waiting for an answer.
But I'm also willing to check by myself and to ask Sabayon mirror maintaner for the best practices

I guess I only need to do cron task with rsync a server. But which one ? At what time will be the best, etc....

Looks like they are busy
You know a lot more than I do, if you can't wait maybe look at the sites closet to Italy
Would be nice to have another up to date mirror like the Italian one

I'm not hurry, just willing to help.
I'll wait for their answer then.

Unfortunatly I'm not able to provide a mirror in Asia (This would help a lot I guess)
My upload in Taiwan is only 5M on my current connection. (I might be able to upgrade later to 10M but nothing more)

So I've started to rsync the italian mirror.
(It takes time tho)

But the content will be available here (158GB to download, almost finished)
http://mirror.freelydifferent.com/sabayon/

May be I'll add later a better interface. (But don't really need it in fact)

So, I'll set a cron task to rsync the italian mirror once or twice a day (I guess once is enough right?) I'll do it during the night to insure a better bandwidth.
Or may be twice xD

EDIT: The script for Ubuntu mirror is quite clear. I'm going to use this one and adapt a bit + add some feature may be.
I let you know when I'm done.

EDIT2:
The script is working and I set a cron task to update once a day. (If you have any suggestion about the frequency and time, let me know)
I'll try to improve the script and afterward I'll post here or create a new entry into the wiki.
But I'd like to display a kind a summary to be send by mail (Like with the total data transfered, but I don't really now how to get this value tho)

Entropy have mirrors in Asia,Japan and Thailand.
When your mirror turned fully configurated, send an email to Fabio for
oficialize it,since Entropy and Sabayon requires more mirrors
i acessed your mirror from my location (in Brazil) an it works well.
The Official Brazilian mirrors are recent. Some months ago, Sabayon not have
mirrors in Brazil. I asked for then in Brazilian Universities, and mirrors at Paraná
and Ceará Brazilian States are made and are now Official.

dudumomo, please can you post the details of your mirror to the "devel" mailing list? We can get it added to the offical mirror list then.

also, thanks! :D

Concerning the torrent, I've manually added the new release to my deluge client.
However, it might be better to do it automatically, hence torrents will always get good speed.

But do we have RSS for the torrent or something similar ?
