Hello i am New with Sabayon Linux but i use Linux on my laptop a Long Time . I use Debian fedora opensuse.
Now i use a gentoo based distro.but i am very disapointed about the distro.
First i Have a very Low resolution on my laptop a Old acer 8930g with 4 gig and a nvidia 9700m gt and harddisk 640gb.
In the live session and after the install the Same problem.
Second my touchpad did not work.
What works are wireless .nothing else.very very bad i think .Debian and opensuse works with my videochip.
There is a nvidia driver but it says it is not activated.why?
I think it is not tested very well .
What kind of videocards works out of the box?
The nvidia 9700m gt did not work!
Not my way to release a distro with bad videocards support.

Hi Jacco

welcome on Sabayon forum

I'm sorry for your incovenient

But your nvidia card isn't supported by nvidia-drivers provided (lower version : 340.96)
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe ... 5165/en-us
It is supported from 340.98 version that Sabayon doesn't provided.
but you can file a new package request (if possible)

Nvidia-drivers available:

Code: Select all

$ equo s nvidia-dr -qv
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#3.10.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#3.12.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#3.14.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#3.18.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#4.1.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#4.4.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#4.5.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.131#4.6.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#3.10.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#3.12.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#3.14.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#3.18.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#4.1.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#4.4.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#4.5.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#4.6.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96#4.7.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#3.10.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#3.12.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#3.14.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#3.18.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#4.1.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#4.4.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#4.5.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#4.6.0-sabayon
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-370.28#4.7.0-sabayon
Your video card works running nouveau opensource drivers (installed by default)

but Nouveau drivers are blacklisted ' (see Sabayon Wiki)
you'll can remove the block

Code: Select all

$  sudo sed -i.bk 's/blacklist\ nouveau//g' /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
(-i.bk force to backup the original file)

remove nvidia-drivers (installed by default)

Code: Select all

# equo rm nvidia-drivers --ask
and mask all nvidia-drivers packages if you want

Code: Select all

# equo mask nvidia-drivers

Reboot the system and cross your fingers

Now your video card is working --> VESA drivers

Touchpad : which DE ? Did you have checked touchpad/mouse settings to enable touchpad/tapping ?

Good Luck !

[edit] Accordingon portage tree nvidia-drivers-340.98 are misisng

Hello thx for your answer , Now it works with great resolution thx.

Only the touchpad did not work .
I use gnome shell and i see no option to enable tap clicking in gnome shell.

But for the rest everything is ok.
I have updated the system and now i have another wallpaper .
Can i restore the older wallpaper with the sabayon logo ?

thx

touchpad settings should be somewhere in gnomesettings-->mouse (or something like)

old wallpaper is stored /usr/share/backgrounds
