I did try Google-ing for this. But, the info I found was quite old. I didn't want to risk using info that was that out of date.

Also, my problem doesn't exactly match the problems othere were (are?) having. If I walk away from my PC for a few hours and the monitor shuts down, I have no problem waking it again by wiggling the mouse.

But, if i leave the PC on overnight, maybe because of a slow download, I cannot wake the monitor up the next morning.

One suggestion that I found was to try 'xset -q'

This is the output:

I really do like Sabayon. I actually went to Sabayon because I found compatibility issues with most other distros, or other rolling release distros (PCLOS) satrted developing issues after updating so many times.

If you have any ideas, thanks :)
-Joe

Edit: Of the distros that I've tried just work out of the box, I haven't seen this issue. For instance, Mepis works really well. But, it seems a bit dated.

Usually when I see something like, particularly as you've described, it's not quote the monitor, rather that the computer is failing to come out of hibernation/sleep. When it's left for only a short period of time, the CPU doesn't go to sleep, it's just the monitors that turn off.

I assume you are using KDE since that's the image you downloaded. What power settings do you see in systemsettings? You should see a separate screen energy saving vs suspend session or something like that. Tell us what you see. You can even shorten up those settings to confirm that the monitor energy saving isn't the problem and that the sleep/suspend/hibernate is the problem.

Hi Stupot and thanks for the help :)

When I go to SystemSettings>PowerManagement>ConfigureEnergySaving,

Screen Energy Saving/Switch Off after 10 minutes is checked

SuspendSession in not checked

Under ConfigureAdvancedPowerManagementSettings,

LockScreenOnResume and NeverPreventAnActionOnLidClose are both not checked.

Also, under SystemSettings>DisplayandMonitor>ScreenLocker,

ScreenLockerSettings>StartAutomaticallyAfter: 30minutes is checked

RequirePassword: is not checked.

Under ScreenLocker>ScreenLockerType,

ScreenSaver is selected. Random is chosen.

Thanks,
-Joe

I "think" I know where to begin troubleshooting.

'top' shows zero swap.

'swapon /dev/sda6' worked without any sort of complaint.

'top' now shows:
KiB Swap: 2931824 total, 2925576 free, 6248 used. 1200960 a

So, it appears that the swap partition is no longer being mounted when Sabayon loads.

Tomorrow, I'll get to work trying to figure out how to get get 'swapon' to work automatically again in systemd.

Thanks :)

This is a copy of my fstab:

#
# Accessible filesystems, by reference, are maintained under '/de$
# See man pages fstab(5), findfs(8), mount(8) and/or blkid(8) for$

There is no swap partition listed.

If your system isn't hibernating, a lack of swap partition wouldn't kill it, but my guess is your system is hibernating after some point, we just haven't found out where. If you have a swap partition you intend to use, adding that back is probably all you need.

Thanks Stupot,

I've tried editing both /etc/init.d/swap and /etc/init.d/swapfiles. Everyplace it said 'dev/null', I relace it with 'dev/sda6'.

No luck after rebooting.

I've tried placing a swapon #!/bin/sh script in /etc/profile.d

No luck after rebooting.

'/etc/fstab' no longer makes sense to me. I'm used to the older type where the partitions are laid out with auto, noauto, etc.

I really like Sabayon. But for the time being, I should probably go looking for a Linux with the more traditional way of doing things.

I shall return, though. I'm sure I'll try Sabayon again in the future. Maybe after i've had a chance to get up to speed on all these changes.

Thanks,
-Joe

It isn't an HDD issue, it is an ACPI issue, in fact, we have to deactivate the hibernate function in the bios (processeur and deactivate C6 state), because it doesn't work with linux.

I have the same issue and i solved it by the way.

the matter is very near of this old post :
