Touchpad on Dell Inspiron 15 5547 [partially solved]

Postby mhzuchini » Wed Aug 13, 2014 19:40

Hello to everybody.
I've just installed Sabayon 14.07 amd64 GNOME on a Dell Inspiron 15 5547 (series 5000)
Almost everything is working: sound, mics, camera, keyboard. Even the touchscreen is working fine.
However, the touch pad seems do not even be recognized. It only works like a PS2 mouse: just left and right clicks, by using the buttons or tapping. No scroll, no two-fingers, no gestures...
I'm not sure, but I suppose that the hardware that (seems to...) have no support is Name="DLL063E:00 06CB:2934". Others like touchscreen and PS2 seems to be OK:

Code: Select all
cat /proc/bus/input/devices
...
I: Bus=0018 Vendor=06cb Product=2934 Version=0100
N: Name="DLL063E:00 06CB:2934"

H: Handlers=mouse0 event6
B: PROP=0

B: KEY=30000 0 0 0 0

B: PROP=2
B: EV=b
B: KEY=400 0 0 0 0 0

I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000
N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse"

U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse3 event17
B: PROP=0
B: EV=7
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0
B: REL=3

The settings on Gnome doesn't even show the touchpad, only "General" and "Mouse" is shown in settings.

Does anybody have a tip?
Thanks in advance.

Oh, well, well... seems to be a real bug.
I've found this on Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1332384 so the problem may be a little more complicated to solve.
Does anybody have any news besides that one?

Hi, everybody!

I've found a partially solution for this problem here https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1048314#c2.
Many people seems to have been experiencing troubles in put device "DLL063E:00 06CB:2934" (on many Dells and HPs) to work properly.

I tried Trevor Vaughan's tip which I reproduce here (check the original link above):
  1. Open /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf in your favorite text editor
  2. Add the line 'blacklist i2c-hid' (no quotes)
  3. Save and reboot

I CAN CONFIRM that this tweak partially solved the problem: my touchpad does work now: two finger scroll, tapping etc. Nevertheless, no advanced features (like zooming in or out). Here I put the Gnome configuration screen now including the touchpad

The device is identified as a Synaptics:
Code: Select all
cat /proc/bus/input/devices
...
I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1
N: Name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input12
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse2 event12
B: PROP=5
B: EV=b
B: KEY=e520 610000 0 0 0 0
B: ABS=660800011000003
[...]

They link this problem to the kernel, so I'm still waiting for comments.

In addition to previous post: after blacklisting i2c-hid, I've noticed ELAN touchscreen now have changed its behaviour... I can no longer scroll on Chromium, not even touching the sidebar. On Chromium, the touchscreen have almost no effect at all.
I tested Firefox and scroll works only by using the sidebar, it's no longer possible to swipe the screen up and down. The same with LibreOffice. As far as I can see, touching the screen now have the same behavior as click-and-selecting with the mouse down.

The mouse pointer also disappears as soon as I touch the screen.
Other things appears to be normal: I can open files and folders, re-size, move and close windows by taping... Oh, and the touchpad is working as I told before! :)

I hope this thread at least helps someone else... :?
