How to capture from USB webcam

Post by msdobrescu » Tue Oct 08, 2013 16:39

Hello,

I need something to tune a web camera, its brightness and related, in order to use it properly in skype.
It's a Zalman ZM-PC200 and it looks dark.

Does it use the uvcvideo module for the driver? If it does, try guvcview. It's in the Entropy repository and can be used to configure various settings for Webcams that use the uvcvideo driver.

Know what? Whether it uses the uvcvideo module? Use the lsmod command to list the loaded modules, and look through the output to see if uvcvideo is in the list.

I've checked, it is there. Could I do anything else? I mean, is there a way to set it up and keep that settings for skype?

As I wrote previously, try guvcview. From the application's Web site:
You can also use guvcview (since version 0.9.9) has a control window only, (from console: guvcview --control_only), this allows image control on other apps, like ekiga, cheese, mplayer, skype, ...
Guvcview stores all options into a configuration file named .guvcviewrc, this file is stored in the user home directory. The file is opened at start and it is rewritten at exit.
Google is your friend, and also try:

Code: Select all

man guvcview
guvcview --help

I have no doubt it could...
I just don't get it how. It did not reflect in skype...
