Hi guys,

It's been a while since I'm using an i7-3630qm laptop it has a dual graphics system which consists of an intel HD 4000 and nvidia GeForce GT 630m, I wanna install the driver for the nvidia card to be sure it's being used by the system my main goal is to install cuda toolkit which relies on nvidia hardware so what to do?

here is the kspci -v display:
Code: Select all

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
        Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 181b
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 41
        Memory at 74000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
        Memory at 60000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        I/O ports at 5000 [size=64]
        Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]
        Capabilities: [90] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit-
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2
        Capabilities: [a4] PCI Advanced Features
        Kernel driver in use: i915
..........................
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce GT 630M (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
        Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 181b
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 7
        Memory at 72000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
        Memory at 40000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
        Memory at 50000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M]
        I/O ports at 4000 [disabled] [size=128]
Expansion ROM at 52000000 [disabled] [size=512K]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 3
        Capabilities: [68] MSI: Enable- Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+
Capabilities: [78] Express Endpoint, MSI 00
        Capabilities: [b4] Vendor Specific Information: Len=14 <?>
        Capabilities: [100] Virtual Channel
        Capabilities: [128] Power Budgeting <?>
        Capabilities: [600] Vendor Specific Information: ID=0001 Rev=1 Len=024 <?>

I also noticed no nvidia subdirectory in "/proc/driver/"
Code: Select all
cowboys2 driver # eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1]   xorg-x11 *
  [2]   ati
  [3]   nvidia
cowboys2 driver #

I'm on sabayon 10 64 bit having kernels with sources:
Code: Select all
cowboys2 driver # eselect kernel list
Available kernel symlink targets:
  [1]   linux-3.5
  [2]   linux-3.5-r9-sabayon
  [3]   linux-3.5.0-sabayon
  [4]   linux-3.8.13-sabayon *
cowboys2 driver #

meanwhile, I'm wondering if there is a way to use the two cards with the system automatically switching between them ?
any help appreciated, nvidia drivers have always been my worst NIGHTMARE on linux  but this time no way back!

thanks in advance, best regards
