nVidia driver problem

Postby dalian » Tue Aug 20, 2013 22:07

I installed 13.08 today and discovered my monitor wasn't detected, running with a standard 1024x768 resolution.
I read the notice about the Legacy cards, and I have an old GeForce 9500. I went to the package manager and noticed I had nouveau drivers installed, so I removed them and install the 319 drivers. I logged out, and the resolution was finally fine but it worked like crap, as if the drivers couldn't handle the resolution. After rebooting, I woke up to the same standard 1024x768 resolution, so I removed the drivers and installed Nouveau back, and the same happened. Monitor detected, max resolution but it works like hell.

I'm at a loss here.

running gnome x64

Code: Select all

>>   @@ Package: x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.88#3.10.0-sabayon branch: 5, [sabayonlinux.org]
>>   @@ Package: x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-319.32#3.10.0-sabayon branch: 5, [sabayonlinux.org]

Handtekening? Zeg...ik ga niet op m'n monitor schrijven!

I did, but I got the same problem.
Problem solved by...well, replacing my nVidia card with a Radeon HD 5450 I had in my drawer.
It seems to be fully supported. And it doesn't make the noises the nVidia card did.
